Types of Operating System:
Single user:-Desktop like with a single user account being accessible.
Multi-User:-Two or more users can run programs at same time.
Multi Processing:-A program will be running on more then one cpu.
Multitasking:-Allows more than one program to run concurrently.
GUI (Graphical User Interface): Icons navigated using mouse.
Let us talk about file systems:-
Physical disk has logical design which is referred to file system.
Types are: FAT (16, 32) File Allocation Table.
NTFS New Technology File System.
Fat file system supports dual booting, but has draw backs with file security system.
FAT16 formally used on Windows NT 4.0, and FAT32 was introduced with Windows 95.
Difference between FAT16 and Fat32 lies on their performance.
Notable limitation with Fat file systems:-Root directory is limited to 512 entries
NTFS has high performance and file level security. Supports RAID storage system.
This uses a master file table (MFT).Faster locating method (branching tree).

Yeh...If you install a program today, which destroys the file system..., Em...Just go and try for system restore option. Most of the time it works well!
